On average, a horse trading at race time at 3.0 at race time will win 1 in 3 races
On average, a horse trading at 2.0 at race time will win 1 in 2 races
and so on...
Once I understood and accepted that, it was just a short step to an even greater realisation...
If I could predict earlier in the day that a particular runner was likely to go off at a shorter price than currently available, I would automatically secure value by taking that price.
Understanding which way the betting markets were moving could let me know quickly and easily if I’d identified something the bookies hadn’t already priced in.
Technical Analysis rather than Fundamental Analysis
Once I understood that, I set about finding reliable indicators that a runner was shortening in price and would be shorter at race time.
First I became an expert in predicting that a runner would shorten in price - developing over years a wide range of market indicators to help me make that prediction
